Search continues for 71-year-old La Mesa woman with dementia

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — Vivian Crowder, a 71-year-old La Mesa woman with dementia and diabetes, has been missing since October 29. His family, growing more worried every day, is now turning to the public for help. in research.

“It’s indescribable, but we have to keep going,” Lonnel Crowder said. “We have to keep going until we find her.”

If there were words to describe the last six days, Lonnel would describe them as devastating.

“It’s true, man,” he said. “I didn’t sleep much. So let’s hope she comes back to us.

His sister Vivian, 71, has been missing since last Tuesday. Freda Hammock, a relative of Vivian’s, spoke to her that morning.

“‘I love you. I’ll see you later,'” Freda said, remembering that moment. “And she waved at me. She said, ‘I love you too!’ That’s the last time I saw her.

Freda said Vivian’s cousin took her to Natura, a hair removal and skin care spa in the 8200 block of La Mesa Boulevard.

Security footage from the nearby Pink Rose Cafe shows Vivian walking outside around 10:18 a.m. Lt. Katy Lynch, with the La Mesa Police Department, said Vivian turned west, possibly having something to eat, then went back the other way when she was last seen heading east on La Mesa Boulevard.

“Immediately east of here, of course, is the light rail station,” Lt. Lynch told ABC 10News. “So we worked with MTS by looking at their video to determine if she got on a streetcar, if she got on a bus, which bus, which streetcar and which direction she went from there.

Lt. Lynch said the search has so far been unsuccessful.

The family is particularly concerned since Vivian suffers from dementia and diabetes, and has not taken her medication all this time.

Vivian has a distinctive mole above her lip and always wears a headband. You can see both in the “Missing Person” flyer created by the La Mesa Police Department.

Even The RAD movement has now intervened. The organization helps locate and recover missing and exploited people.

“Our concern is that she could have gotten on that streetcar and she could have gone any direction — all the way to Tijuana or even north,” said Sharie Finn, co-founder of the RAD movement.

The family admits they’re nervous, but they’re not giving up.

“I go out every day, walk around, put up flyers, ask people questions – whatever I can do, you know,” Freda said.

If you see Vivian, call 911 immediately. Finn has advised you not to approach her because she has dementia. Just keep your eyes on her and call the police. You can always call La Mesa PD directly at 619-667-1400.
