As American voters headed to the polls on Election Day on Tuesday, poll officials urged people not to be fooled by conspiracy theories about voter fraud.

False claims of voter fraud made by former President Donald Trump in 2020 mean there will be increased scrutiny of voter eligibility, logistical issues such as long lines, Ballot functionality and vote counting. This will be especially true for key battleground states.

But, in 2024, the viral claims circulating on the Internet as well as Trump’s allegations have remained intact. Other Republicans also accused the vote of being “rigged.” Election officials, however, said those claims were baseless.

By skirting isolated voting issues, the Republican presidential candidate led his supporters to believe the election would not be legitimate if he lost. He has made allegations ranging from illegal voting and failure to verify overseas or military ballots, to early voting fraud and illegitimate mail-in ballots.

Here are four of these claims verified by BBC Check:

Ballot Markings

According to BBC CheckAn image is circulating on social media showing a person holding a mail-in ballot, which already had a mark next to Kamala Harris’ name. An article on

The Kentucky Board of Elections rejected the allegation. He told the BBC that it had so far sent 1,30,000 ballot papers and had not received any complaints regarding the pre-printed markings.

“As no one presented a pre-marked ballot to election administrators or law enforcement, the claim that at least one ballot may have had a pre-printed mark in Kentucky does not currently exist only in the vacuum of social media,” he was quoted as saying. .

The election board added that if more than one candidate’s name is inked on mail-in ballots, they will still be counted if the voter circles their preferred choice.
