Meet the Candidate: Michelle Christie – DiscoverMooseJaw.com

Q. Why are you running for mayor/city council?

A. I am running so that the council can help make changes. I believe council members should serve the people of Moose Jaw and put the best interests of all taxpayers first. Together, we can create meaningful change and ensure that the future of our city reflects the needs and concerns of its residents. I am committed to our community, dedicated to transparency, and have proven leadership experience. I prioritize responsible budgeting, ensuring critical infrastructure projects are managed effectively to improve the safety and livability of communities. By reviewing spending, I will address critical needs while avoiding unnecessary spending. I will advocate for comprehensive solutions to homelessness and support local businesses to drive job growth and economic development. Together we can create a thriving and welcoming environment for all Moose Jaw residents and businesses. I’m ready to get to work!

Q. Do you have experience in public service/community boards/politics?

A. I have served on numerous committees as an educational representative and treasurer, as well as an advisory board. I have a degree in business administration from the University of Regina and have taken courses in land acquisition at Mount Royal University in Calgary.

Q. Do you think experience matters in any way?

A. Experience is crucial when making financial decisions on behalf of taxpayers. With 11 years of operations management and extensive professional experience, I understand the importance of considering multiple facets of every decision, including financial implications and broader community impact. It is essential to prioritize the needs of the majority, ensuring that decisions benefit all taxpayers, as their money funds council operations and municipal administration. Regarding the municipal council position, there is training.

Q. What topic/political issue/incident was a tipping point for you?

A. For me, the turning point was realizing that Moose Jaw had not progressed in the last four years. In fact, I think we have regressed. I know I can bring significant economic and financial benefits to council, and I am committed to restoring Moose Jaw to its former greatness. Many decisions have been made without exploring all possible options, and it is time to put our community first and unlock its true potential. Together we can create a better future for our city.

Q. What criticisms do you have, if any, of the policies you’ve seen over the last two or three years?

A. In recent years we have seen a lot of criticism in politics. There is a lack of transparency and accountability, and people are frustrated. Many politicians are out of touch with the needs of ordinary citizens. Decisions are often made without considering their impact on the community, and we need leaders who put people first, not special interests. It’s time for real change: Moose Jaw deserves better!

Q. What is your proposed compromise/cooperation with other council members to achieve political goals?

A. I believe the numbers don’t lie, I’m looking to look at all options and do more research. Compromise is key, but we won’t settle for the bare minimum. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and work with other council members to get things done. Together we can achieve our goals and make Moose Jaw a better place for everyone. Let’s bring real results to our community!

Q. What else do you want voters to know about you?

A. As a mother of two young children, I care deeply about creating a bright future for everyone in our community. Moose Jaw is a great city full of great people and the potential for growth is enormous. Transparency is essential and public participation is crucial. We can’t stick to the same old advice and expect different results. I’m here to work hard, bring new ideas, and make things happen for our families and our future!

Q. In the interest of transparency, do you coordinate or share association with other candidates in any way?

A. No.
