Atlanta Falcons have eyes wide open at NFL trade deadline

As the NFL trade deadline approaches, the Atlanta Falcons continue to be linked to some of the best pass rushers available on the market – but the Falcons only have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to get a deal done.

Atlanta is one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning five of its last six games while holding a two-game advantage over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South.

The deadline presents a great opportunity for the Falcons to continue to strengthen their roster – but head coach Raheem Morris isn’t letting his mind wander.

Morris keeps his phone nearby, however, awaiting any potential phone calls from general manager Terry Fontenot and, if necessary, owner Arthur Blank.

“You get called when these opportunities present themselves, you can look at them, you can evaluate things that are potentially going to happen,” Morris said Monday. “Then those discussions happen with myself, Terry. More than likely when a big decision is like that or however big the decision is, you involve the owners.”

Morris also addressed the deadline issue during his Oct. 30 speech, noting that Fontenot is “like the greatest in the world” because he constantly talks with players and teams while looking for improvements.

There are a lot more teams willing to trade now than before, Morris said, and the deadline in general has become more popular.

Still, heading into a crucial day of potential upgrades, Morris isn’t worried.

“I don’t even have to worry about that,” Morris said. “When these opportunities present themselves, rise to the occasion and see what happens, whatever can suit us and make us feel good and see what gets better.

“You’re constantly trying to improve all the time. So anything that has a chance to do that and improve, you’ll try to do.”

Atlanta only has four draft picks in 2025as he doesn’t have a third, fifth or sixth round pick — but if Fontenot and Morris feel upgrades are available, they could ultimately pull the trigger.
