Election Day Officially Begins as Harris, Trump Tie in Dixville Notch’s Midnight Voting

Officials in several Pennsylvania counties continue to investigate potentially fraudulent voter registration applications, as Trump has made misleading or false claims about the incident.

Authorities in Lancaster, Berks, Monroe and York counties are investigating thousands of voter registration applications that they deem potentially fraudulent, according to various state officials. Amid ongoing investigations, some claims have been confirmed to be fraudulent while others have been found to be legitimate, according to updates.

Yet just last week, Trump declared that Lancaster County had been “caught up…by 2,600 votes.”

“They found, as I understand it, I mean, I don’t know what happened on the last day, but in Lancaster they found 2,600 ballots, all written by the same hand,” he said. Trump said Sunday in Pennsylvania. .

But, according to Pennsylvania’s attorney general, Trump’s description is false. In a statement last week, Chief State’s Attorney Michelle Henry said “the investigations focus on voter registration forms, not ballots.”

On Monday, Lancaster County officials also advised that of the approximately 2,500 applications under investigation, more than half had been confirmed as valid. According to Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D’Agostino, 57% of the claims have been verified, 17% have been determined to be fraudulent and 26% are still under investigation and are incomplete or unverified.

D’Agostino stressed that the investigation with the prosecutor is still ongoing. “We take this very seriously,” he said.

In York County, officials said last week that their investigation into a batch of 3,087 applications led to 47% of them being “verified as legitimate” and being approved, 29% being incomplete and are pending, and 24% have been denied and are under investigation by the DA.

Election officials stressed that this alleged fraud was contained and stopped – and say this example highlights the effectiveness of the system. Henry said the fraud attempts “were defeated.”

“These attempts were thwarted by the safeguards in place in Pennsylvania,” Henry said in his statement last week.
