Due to the damage caused by Tropical Storm Helene, changes have been made to polling locations and some vote proceedings in Buncombe County.

Although more than 10 locations were changed, Buncombe County Elections Office officials said polling locations fared “better than expected” during the storm.

Here are the locations that were changed, how many voters were affected and the cause of each change.

Where to vote after Hélène

Seventeen of Buncombe County’s 80 polling locations have been changed according to the county website. Affected voters in Buncombe County should also have received letters informing them of their new polling locations.

Locations that were changed after Helene include:

  1. Former location: Skyland Fire Department, 9 Miller Road South, Asheville 28803

    • New location: First Skyland Baptist Church, 2115 Hendersonville Road, Arden 28704

    • Reason: A fire station is needed for post-Helen recovery.

    • Voters concerned: 1,966

  2. Former location: Crossroads Assembly, 20 South Bear Creek Road, Asheville 28806

  3. Former location: Beaverdam Fire Department, 450 Beaverdam Road, Asheville 28804

  4. Former location: Black Mountain Elementary School, 301 E. State St., Black Mountain 28711

  5. Former location: Black Mountain Montessori School, 101 Carver Avenue, Black Mountain 28711

  6. Former location: Lakeview Center, 401 Laurel Circle Drive, Black Mountain 28711

  7. Former location: First Baptist Church of Black Mountain, 130 Montreat Road, Black Mountain

    • New location: Black Mountain Elementary School, 301 State St., Black Mountain 28711

    • Reason: The original location serves as a disaster relief center

    • Voters concerned: 2,119

  8. Former location: Garren Creek Fire Department, 10 Flat Creek Road, Fairview 28730

    • New location: FEMA Tent, 1722 NC 9, Black Mountain, NC 28711

    • Reason: Fire station needed for post-Helen recovery

    • Voters concerned: 1,603

  9. Former location: Spring Mountain Community Center, 807 Old Fort Road, Fletcher 28730

    • New location: Fairview Library, 1 Taylor Road, Fairview 28730

    • Reason: The original location serves as a disaster relief center

    • Voters concerned: 1,726

  10. Former location: French Fire Department, 572 Fletcher Martin Road, Alexander 28701

    • New location: Alexander Baptist Church, 1 Curtis Parker Road Alexander 28701

    • Reason: A fire station is needed for post-Helen recovery.

    • Voters concerned: 3,476

  11. Former location: Pole Creek Baptist Church, 96 Snow Hill Church Road, Candler 28715

    • New location: Liberty Baptist Church, 875 Monte Vista Road, Candler 28715

    • Reason: The original location serves as a disaster relief center

    • Voters concerned: 4,495

  12. Former location: Emma’s Grove Baptist Church, 417 Emmas Grove Road, Fletcher 28732

  13. Former location: Reynolds Fire Department, 1 Charles Lytle Lane, Asheville 28803

    • New location: Reynolds Middle School, 2 Rocket Drive, Asheville 28803

    • Reason: Fire station needed for post-Helen recovery

    • Voters concerned: 1,518

  14. Former location: Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, 801 Charlotte Highway, Fairview 28730

  15. Former location: Riceville Community Center, 2251 Riceville Road, Asheville 28805

  16. Former location: First Baptist of Swannanoa, 503 Park St., Swannanoa 28778

    • New location: Artspace Charter School, 2030 US 70, Swannanoa 28778

    • Reason: The original location serves as a disaster relief center

    • Voters concerned: 2,207

  17. Former location: Bee Tree Fire Department, 510 Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa 28778

    • New location: Warren Wilson College, 124 Lower College Road, Swannanoa 28778

    • Reason: Fire station needed for post-Helen recovery

    • Voters concerned: 1,911
