Kiernan Shipka Recalls Christmas ‘Incident’ (Exclusive)

Kiernan Shipka remembers a “big Christmas incident”.

The 24-year-old actress has no problem recalling a Christmas-related disaster while on Sunday, November 3, on the red carpet at the premiere of her new film in Berlin, Germany. Red. “I drank so much with my friends one night, and I woke up the next day and I had – I’m telling you – a huge bump on my nose,” she said.

Demonstrating the mysterious facial injury, she said: “My nose literally came out a little bit and then went back in. »

How did such an unfortunate incident happen? “I don’t know if I fell,” Shipka responds. “It is not clear how this happened. This lasted a few weeks. It was a big Christmas mishap.

However, in the spirit of the holidays, she continues: “You know, we live, we learn, we have fun. »

Redin theaters November 15, features the Mad Men alum alongside Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, Lucy Liu, Bonnie Hunt And JK Simmons. From director Jake Kasdan and writers Chris Morgan and Hiram Garcia, the holiday action comedy focuses on high-tech Santa’s covert gift delivery operations threatened on Christmas Eve by Grýla – a vengeful medieval entity played by Shipka.

“I’ve never really played a classic villain before,” reflects the actress. “It was like intimidating shoes to fill.” I took inspiration from a lot of different places. Lots of random stuff.

Simmons, 69, also found the role of old Saint Nick “intimidating.” He tells PEOPLE that the role was “played by wonderful, wonderful actors and I was happy that it was a very different take.”

Codenamed Red One, the character is “not what people might expect,” teases the Oscar winner. “It says in the script of Santa’s first description that he’s not really…merry. And I thought that really helped me.

Shipka calls Simmons an “amazing” scene partner. “He’s so supportive. I mean, everyone – they’re heavyweights, that whole cast. Everyone is so good. And I looked, observed, explored.
