Josh Stein defeats Mark Robinson in North Carolina governor’s race

Josh Stein was elected governor of North Carolina, according to the Associated Press, defeating the controversial Republican lieutenant governor. Marc Robinsonwho would have one day qualified as “Black Nazi” and made several inflammatory comments about the LGBTQ+ community and Jewish people.

Stein, 58, the state’s Democratic attorney general, was considered the heavy favorite despite North Carolina’s status as a purple state, largely because of Robinson’s controversial, headline-grabbing candidacy negative during the last months of the race.

In September, CNN reported that Robinson, 56, who was elected lieutenant governor in 2020, allegedly posted comments that he wanted slavery restored and called himself a “black NAZI” on a pornographic site’s forum.

The CNN investigative report published a portion of Robinson’s alleged comments on the Nude Africa website between 2008 and 2012.

Although CNN said the comments were fact-checked, with the news organization explaining that they linked “a litany of biographical details” and the account’s email address to him, Robinson called the story “salacious garbage tabloids.”

Previously, Robinson had quoted Hitler in a Facebook post from 2014 and denied the Holocaust in several other posts, including one in which he asserted that “this madness that Hitler would disarm MILLIONS of Jews and then take them to concentration camps is complete hogwash.”

Other old Facebook posts made by Robinson included remarks calling homosexuality a “dirty abomination” and “degenerate and unnatural lust.”

During a 2020 event that later resurfaced on YouTube, Robinson said he wanted to go back in time to when women weren’t allowed to vote.

A CNN report as of May 2023, it was found that Robinson refers to survivors of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, as “spoiled little bastards.”

Robinson easily won the Republican nomination for governor in 2024 with 66% of the primary vote after being endorsed by Donald Trump.

Although the polls measuring the presidential race in North Carolina were very thin until Election Day on November 5, Stein was consistently leading the polls, outside the margin of error.
