Anti-encroachment drives begin at Rajiv Chowk, Sadar Bazar in Gurugram

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to launch strict anti-encroachment drives to clear two key areas – Rajiv Chowk and Sadar Bazar – where encroachment has become a major problem.

On Tuesday, the GMDA’s enforcement wing, led by deputy town planner RS Batth, along with NHAI and local police officials, conducted an inspection of Rajiv Chowk and its surrounding areas. During the visit, it was observed that the ‘jhuggie’ (slums) which had been removed during a previous demolition drive had re-encroached on the area under the flyover, along Medicity Road and near the crossing underground for pedestrians. This not only made the area look dilapidated but also disrupted traffic.

RS Batth said, “We will take strict action and will not allow any encroachment on such a critical place. We personally met the illegal residents who encroached on the land and asked them to vacate the premises. If they do not comply, we will take further action. »

In a related development, issues of encroachment in Sadar Bazar were also discussed at a recent meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG). Following this, Batth, along with his team and the MCG Enforcement team, visited Sadar Bazar late Tuesday evening for a thorough inspection which lasted for over three hours. They asked traders to cooperate in maintaining a clean and organized bazaar and informed ‘rehri’ (cart) owners, street vendors and local residents to remove their materials and personal belongings to avoid encroaching on public spaces.

The MCG Enforcement team also carried out videography and a drone survey to identify offenders, with plans for regular monitoring. “Initially, we will remove unauthorized rehris and vending carts from roads and footpaths. Any encroachment poses a safety and security risk as it may block access to ambulances or firefighters in the event of “We have already spoken to the traders,” asking them not to allow “rehris” or illegal carts in front of their shops to avoid traffic jams. Further action will be taken within 72 hours against those who break the rules,” Batth added.
