Bernie Moreno expected to defeat Sherrod Brown in Ohio Senate race

CINCINNATI — After 17 years, Sherrod Brown will no longer be an Ohio senator. Decision Desk HQ projects that Republican challenger Bernie Moreno, a Cleveland businessman who had the support of Donald Trump, defeated Brown, who was seeking his fourth term.

The race was the most expensive Senate contest this cycle. Campaigns, parties and outside groups have spent more than $400 million on campaign ads, according to ad tracking firm AdImpact.

Moreno is a businessman with experience in automobile sales. He moved to the United States from Colombia at the age of 5 and became a U.S. citizen at 18. He ran on an agenda similar to Trump’s, citing border security, abortion and education choices among his top issues.

His campaign website said he ran for Senate because “for too long, the men and women who move Ohio forward, working Americans, have been left behind by career politicians like Sherrod Brown and Joe Biden.

Brown has represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate since 2007. He is a lifelong Ohioan who spent his term “fighting for the dignity of work,” according to his biography on Senate.gov.

He ran on a platform that highlighted issues such as high-speed internet access for all in Ohio, protecting Medicare and Social Security programs, and ” resistance to special interests” such as Wall Street, Silicon Valley and the railway lobbies following the Norfolk Southern incident in 2007. Eastern Palestine in 2023.

One of Brown’s biggest agendas was access to abortion and health care for women, following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
