76ers star Joel Embiid to begin serving suspension against LA Clippers

Although he has yet to appear in a match this season, Philadelphia 76ers Big man Joel Embiid has been at the center of multiple controversies. The latest being a multi-game suspension by the NBA.

Recently, a local columnist took some shots at Embiid in an article while also mentioning his deceased brother and young son. The former MVP didn’t take this lightly, as he criticized the report after the Sixers’ practice on Friday. Things then reportedly came to a head on Saturday evening.

After the Sixers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, this same media member was in the locker room after the game. The two allegedly exchanged words and the All-Star center is accused of having physical relations with the journalist.

Upon learning of this news, the NBA launched its second investigation of the year into Embiid. The deal concluded Tuesday, when the league announced he would be suspended for three games. In their statement, it was made clear that Embiid would not begin serving in these games until he was eligible to play.

Later Tuesday evening, reports surfaced about when Embiid’s suspension would begin. He is expected to miss the Sixers’ next two away games against the LA Clippers and Lakers, as well as Monday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets. That matches his possible season debut against the New York Knicks on Nov. 12 in the team’s first NBA Cup game.

This means the Sixers will continue to be shorthanded for at least the next week. Down two of their stars, the shorthanded team opened the season with a 1-5 record. They received some reinforcements, as Paul George made his debut Monday night against the Phoenix Suns.
