the MAGA hat and the Harris-Walz T-shirt

My wife and I went to Manchester, New Hampshire, last week to build Harris-Walz signs at campaign headquarters. On my way out at the end of the day, I noticed a guy standing by our car in the middle of the parking lot, checking it out. He was standing near what appeared to be his car, and I only noticed the MAGA hat and matching red sweatshirt when we got closer. The guy nodded at me as I approached. I forgot I was wearing a Harris-Walz T-shirt.

“Good luck,” he said.

“At the end of the day, we’re all Americans,” I replied.

“Absolutely,” he said, taking a long drag on his cigarette. “I don’t even watch all those TV news shows anymore.”

He let out a long puff of smoke and held out his hand. I shook it.

“Good luck,” he repeated.
