In one of the most beautiful villages in the world where less than 700 people live | Europe | Journey

A pair of travelers have offered a glimpse into what they describe as one of the “most beautiful villages in the world”: a mountain haven home to fewer than 700 residents.

Scott and Collette (@roamaroo) regularly share their family adventures on Instagram with their latest trip taking them to France where they spent three nights enjoying the beautiful surroundings. In the caption of their clip, they wrote: “Less than 700 people live in this small town in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park – Moustiers-Sainte-Marie”.

The couple then detailed its location: “Located as an ideal starting point to the Grand Canyon of France (Gorges du Verdon), it is officially known as one of the most beautiful villages in France. Located in the south of France, it is only two hours from Nice and less than two hours from Marseille.”

The video for their “little piece of heaven” begins with Collette joking about her husband wondering why they would want to spend time in what is “just a little town in the mountains.” However, after recording their journey by road, their video continued with views of the streets of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and drone footage from above the field.

Built on a limestone cliff, the village has for centuries been a center of pottery trade, while a natural spring flowing from the cliff creates a waterfall, which in turn provides water power.

After watching Collette and Scott introduce the cobblestone streets, amenities and water activities the place has to offer, a Instagram exclaimed: “The Verdon is one of the most beautiful places in France. I spent my summers there teaching rowing.

“When I come back to France, this is where I will move. Best secrets of the south of France: people go to Saint-Tropez and don’t know the lake is only 1 hour away.”

“We went there last summer and it was just perfect!” greeted another. A third recalled: “We bought a set of tableware here several years ago that make me so happy every time I use them and remind me of our time in France. So magical.” While a fourth felt inspired: “Wow! I really want to go back to the south of France with warmer weather.”

Others, however, criticized the “influencer” couple for potentially attracting more visitors to the area. “For the love of God, stop posting this kind of content,” one person cursed. “You find a nice, quiet little town and your first thought is ‘how can I get this out to as many people as possible’ so it’s overrun the next time I go?”

A local agreed: “Please don’t publicize it too much, it’s still a quiet, peaceful (and absolutely beautiful) place that’s still nice without masses of tourists.” While a third agreed: “Lots of hidden gems around this place. I was there a few months ago in the middle of summer. NO tourists. Let’s keep it going.”
