Election Day 2024: Live Results and Analysis

With projections made in most states across the country, ABC News predicted that former President Donald Trump would win the high-stakes presidential matchup against Vice President Kamala Harris. Early Wednesday morning, Trump secured enough Electoral College votes to prepare for a second presidency, including flipping the key swing states of Georgia, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

Beyond the presidential race, voters also went to the polls Tuesday across the country and cast ballots to decide who controls Congress, state and local governments. Journalists from 538 and ABC News followed every step of the process with live updates, analysis and commentary on the results. Follow our complete election night coverage below.

Trump claims victory

While addressing supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, where a watch party is being held, former President Donald Trump claimed victory in his speech: “I want to thank the American people for extraordinary honor to be elected your 47th president,” he said. said. (ABC News has not yet predicted he would have won, but he is very close to winning 270 electoral votes.)

Former Pres. Trump addressed his supporters at election night headquarters: “It was a movement like no one had ever seen before, and frankly, I believe it was the greatest political movement of all time. “

Trump now has 266 electoral votes

ABC News projects that Trump will win Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes, putting him on track to win at least 270 electoral votes and the presidency. He now has 266 electoral votes, and although ABC News has not yet predicted the three electoral votes in Alaska or one vote in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, his advantage so far tonight suggests he is more than likely to do so. Additionally, he leads by varying margins in Arizona, Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin.

Trump’s impending victory is historic for a multitude of reasons. He is only the second former president to lose re-election, then return four years later to win back the White House (Democrat Grover Cleveland was the first during the period 1884 to 1892). He also won despite various personal legal problems unprecedented for a major party presidential candidate. It remains to be seen whether Trump will return to power with his party in full control of government: ABC News has predicted that the Senate will go Republican, but the House remains in limbo at this late (or especially early) hour.
