Who is Dana White? After Trump’s bizarre victory speech, he calls for a businessman to be given a government role

As Donald Trump took the stage to celebrate his presidential election victory in Palm Beach, some expected faces joined him on stage: his wife Melaniechildren Ivanka, Donald Jr and Barronand the vice-presidential running mate Mr. J.D. Vance.

However, another surprising figure also appeared on stage, even personally invited by Mr. Trump to give his own speech: Dana White.

“No one deserves this more than him and no one deserves this more than his family,” Mr. White told Mr. Trump’s crowd. “This is what happens when the machine comes after you, what you’ve seen over the last few years, this is what it looks like.”

“I couldn’t stop him, he keeps moving forward, he doesn’t give up, he is the most resilient and hardworking man I have ever met in my life, his family is made up amazing people. It’s karma, ladies and gentlemen, he deserves it, they deserve it as a family.

While some called Mr. White’s speech inappropriate, others outright questioned his appearance on stage. But who is this 55-year-old man and how is he involved in Mr. Trump’s campaign?

The American businessman is the current CEO and chairman of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)an international martial arts organization worth an estimated $12 billion (£9.3 billion). His own net worth is estimated to be around $500 million (£389 million).

What is the connection between Dana White and Donald Trump?

Mr White’s relationship with Mr Trump dates back to the 2000s. UFC events have often been described as brutal, having been banned from television in the past and even threatened to be shut down at one point.

Mixed martial arts (MMA) was legalized in New Jersey in 2000, however, Mr. White said in a 2022 interview that due to its reputation, venues did not want to host fights. “Trump literally called us. He said, “Come to my house, organize the event here. We’ll have you at the Trump Taj Mahal.

Mr. White said Mr. Trump often showed up to watch the fights and support the sport, which raised the company’s profile and helped it secure future venues. “No one took us seriously at the time except Donald Trump,” Mr. White said. said in 2018. “I will never say anything negative about Donald Trump, because he was there when everyone else wasn’t.”

Mr. White kept his word, publicly supporting Mr. Trump’s presidential run and appearing at a number of campaign events in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
