I tried Klarna’s AI shopping assistant. It helped me save $229

I’m not one of those shopaholic girls, but tease me with a trip and I’ll book it faster than a Japanese bullet train. We all have something.

Although I’d rather spend on experiences than on earrings, I love adding pieces I love into my wardrobe. Timeless Levi’s jeans. A black blazer. A warm coat for New York winters. Colorful pants to welcome spring. I tend to fall in love with pieces and build my outfit around them.

The problem is that these items tend to cost more because they prioritize quality over quantity. So when I heard that”buy now, pay later“The leader Klarna had launched an AI shopping assistant that allows you to compare products and find the best price, I was intrigued. It also has access to reviews and is able to answer questions.

Klarna’s AI shopping assistant, launched last month, is powered by OpenAImanufacturer of ChatGPT And Slab. It is available for free in the Klarna app. Klarna was founded in 2005 and currently newspapers more than 2 million transactions per day on the platform.

I have my eye on a new black bag for my coworking days in the city. Klarna AI, can you save my shoulder And a little money?

Set up

From talking refrigerators to iPhones, our experts are here to help make the world a little less complicated.

I downloaded the Klarna app and created an account. If you already use Klarna, you can start using the AI assistant straight away: click the chat icon in the upper right corner.

It looks like any other AI chatbot with an “ask a question” section, as well as pre-filled prompts like “compare Nike and Adidas shoes,” “show me the best coffee machines,” and “the most popular wireless earphones”. You can also click Shop to browse and compare products, alongside the AI assistant.

First, I wanted to test the AI to see how it would find me a new stylish and functional black bag. I needed to replace my Kate Spade handbag which was hurting my shoulder when carrying my laptop in it.

This became my first prompt:

“I have a black Kate Spade handbag with a laptop sleeve. I love the style, but need to upgrade to a backpack for better shoulder support. It’s a look I love to the Cole Haan brand Can you suggest similar options, compare reviews and find the best option under $300?

Right off the bat, he found four options that I liked that were $50 to $100 cheaper than the link I provided. I realized I was looking for a “chic” backpack. Then I selected the first two and it came up as out of stock, which was frustrating.

I checked an available style and Klarna AI generated a chart to help me understand if the price was high, low, or standard.

In my follow-up message, I told Klarna AI that the styles I wanted were out of stock and that I was offering more options. He asked me to select similar brands that I like. I didn’t like the second option, so I then asked for “bohemian styles” and pre-filled brands to choose from.

I found one I liked at a good price. But again it was out of stock.

Next, I tried a more general prompt: “women’s premium leather backpack for work.” It felt better this time.

I asked the AI assistant a question about size, and it yielded the key features, including “plenty of space to store a 13-inch MacBook Pro.”

Then I asked Klarna AI to check the reviews. He told me the product had a 4.7 out of 5 star rating, with 379 reviews. I went to the Michael Kors site to check this, and it was correct.

I also discovered that the bag was 80% off. It was $498, reduced to $99. When I started looking for a new bag, I had the $328 Cole Haan backpack in mind, but I was more than happy to find this $99 Michael Kors alternative that I loved just as much – and that would save me $229.

The verdict

Like other AI tools, Klarna’s AI assistant was a fun shopping partner. While there are some bugs to fix, like not showing items that are currently out of stock, it was helpful to me to be able to discuss a product I was planning to purchase.

This has made the shopping experience more interactive and informed. So while I don’t think it should be the consumer’s only research tool, it can play a role.

You do not need to put the purchase on a Klarna installment plan. The AI assistant can only be used as a research partner. This saved me $229 by finding a backpack at a better price, in less than 30 minutes.

That’s a pretty good deal if you ask me.
