Liverpool news: Virgil van Dijk says table-topping Reds can still improve

Captain Virgil van Dijk believes there is still room for improvement from Liverpool, even though the Reds are top of the Premier League and Champions League tables.

Since Arne Slot took charge at the start of the season, Liverpool have won 14 of their 16 matches in all competitions.

“We’re happy but we want to be happy at the end of the season,” Netherlands international Van Dijk told BBC Radio Merseyside after Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

“It’s about working every day to improve on the things we need to improve on because there are still so many things we could improve on. We all know that as players and coaches we are very keen to do so. also show.

“We are still a work in progress, the manager wants us to defend a certain way, we try to do that and try to solve the problems on the pitch when we can.

“It doesn’t always go perfectly like we’ve seen in so many games, but the good thing is we make sure we’re ready to defend, so when they beat the press we’re back not to concede of unnecessary opportunities or centers.

Liverpool have conceded just six goals in their 10 Premier League matches so far and will host fellow Champions League side Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday.

“There are so many moments and things in matches that we do well and I think so far everything is going well in terms of results,” Van Dijk added.

“(Being) where we are right now and still being able to improve is just a positive thing.”
