For those who haven’t watched it yet (and you definitely should!), Scavengers Reign is a stylish take on a simple sci-fi concept: a freighter crashes on an alien planet, and the crew survivor must figure out how to survive.

Season 1 follows several disparate characters as they explore different parts of the planet Vesta, interacting with strange local wildlife along the way.

It also ends with an incredibly enticing hint at future storylines.

Why won’t there be a Scavengers Reign season 2?

After the show was first canceled on HBO Max, fans didn’t give up hope. Scavengers Reign has arrived Netflix shortly after, and since Netflix occasionally “records” canceled shows, there was a slight possibility that season 2 would still happen.

Unfortunately, this was not the case. Even though Scavengers Reign attracted more viewers through word of mouth, it clearly wasn’t popular enough to warrant a surprise renewal from Netflix.

Co-creator Joe Bennett revealed this week that Scavengers Reign will not return for a second season on Netflix either.

Write on Instagramhe said: “At this time, Scavengers Reign is not renewed for a second season. I wanted everyone to know that directly because I really love our fans, they have been such champions for the series, and I don’t.” I want to leave everyone hanging.

“We had to fight tooth and nail every step of the way to get this series made, from 2016 with the Scavengers short film to the release of the first season last year. It’s a case study in believing in something and persevere through a million and one obstacles.

“But it was achieved, not least because of so many people who supported him throughout the process, in ways big and small.”

It also released a trailer for their theoretical second season, involving more stunning visuals from the planet Vesta – and intriguing new characters introduced in the season 1 finale.

It’s a beautiful trailer, and obviously a bittersweet message for loyal fans. The show’s creative team clearly had a strong idea of ​​where the story would go, expanding the setting with even more fascinating creatures.

On Instagram, Bennett explained that the teaser was produced in-house by the show’s original production company, Green Street, proving that the creative team is fully prepared to make another season.

Hopefully another streaming service takes the bait, but for now, there’s not much reason to be optimistic.
