Voters decide fate of school levies, bond issues in central Ohio

Several tax levies are on the ballot for school districts across the region this Election Day.

The results were announced for the following districts:

Marysville Schools: An emergency levy aimed at maintaining operations in the district was rejected by Marysville voters.

The school district warned it would have to freeze hiring if its levy fails. Now that it is, other options are available to reduce costs, such as eliminating school resource officers, larger class sizes and increasing the price of paid play to $770.

The district has failed to pass a new levy in 15 years.

Grandview Heights Schools: Community members voted in favor of a measure to raise $69.5 million that will fund two major projects.

Hilliard City Schools: Hilliard voters voted to approve$6.9 million operating levy for Hilliard City Schoolswhich will be used to improve the neighborhood’s facilities and buildings.

The district had already discussed eliminating 26 teaching positions if the levy was not passed, as well as eliminating summer school.

New Albany Schools: Voters approved a levy to raise money for projects within the district, including the construction of a new school improving other schools in the district.

Bexley City Schools: Voters approved a supplemental operating levy for the Bexley City School District, which will help fund district operations and maintain programs in schools.

Reynoldsburg City Schools: Voters reject an operating tax that aims to raise $8.5 million for transportation, utilities and teacher pay.

Madison Plains Local Schools: Voters reject a levy and bond issue that would have helped finance the construction of a school building.

Groveport Madison Local Schools: Voters reject the levy and bond issue that would have been intended to raise money to finance the construction and improvement of the district’s schools.

Westerville City Schools: Voters rejected a levy raise $20.8 million to help fund operating costs,including for the renovation of four schools in the district.

Voters adopted a levy proposed by the Westerville Public Library.
