The last time Canada and the United States met, Canada played spoilsport on American soil, winning the gold medal at the 2024 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Utica, New York .

Forward Danielle Serdachny scored the winning goal 6-5 in overtime.

The format changed this year from a seven-game series to a five-game series. Wednesday marks the first of three games that will be played over the next week.

On Friday, the teams will play in Salt Lake City at the Maverik Center, then on Sunday in Boise, Idaho, at the Idaho Central Arena.

Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin has participated in all five Rivalry series since 2018-2019.

With 21 players competing for gold at the 2024 Women’s World Cup, Canada has kept its core core intact. The United States will bring 24 silver medalists to the last Women’s World Championships. Two new additions are familiar, as they have both previously played for the national team. At 35, captain Hilary Knight is the oldest player and Joy Dunne is the youngest at 19 on the U.S. roster. This could be a perfect blend of experience and youth. Only time will tell.
