Rotary Club of Jackson honors veterans at weekly meeting

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson Rotary Club took time to honor veterans during its weekly meeting at First United Methodist Church.

Col. Ardis Porter shared his gratitude and the path that inspired him to serve.

“I had a father and grandfather who both served. My grandfather served in World War II, my father served in Vietnam, so those men kind of set the tone – paved the way for me and gave me what I thought was a great example of what leadership is, but also what service is. ” said Colonel Porter.

Colonel Porter shares that serving in the military is a selfless act and that Veterans Day should always be a day where these soldiers are honored.

“This is our time when we recognize and think of those who are making sacrifices, who are no longer there for us. There are still family members who are dealing with these losses, it gives us a moment where we pause and think of those who paid the ultimate price for all of us and so we can never forget it and we We should never forget it,” said Colonel Porter.

Mark Cancia, who was the moderator of this conversation, shares his gratitude to these soldiers.

“Really express my gratitude for what you did and just honor the fact that you came home and recognize the fact that there are people who didn’t who may be in that grave of unknown soldiers that is in Arlington,” Cancia said.

Veterans Day will be held on Monday, November 11, honoring all living and fallen soldiers.
