The National Weather Service issued an updated weather alert at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday for heavy rain through 5 p.m. for Jackson County.

“At 4:22 p.m., Doppler radar detected heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms originating from near Scottsboro and moving northeast at 20 mph,” the weather service says. “Heavy rainfall of approximately 1 inch per hour could cause water accumulation on area roadways. Allow extra time to arrive at your destination and additional driving distance in these areas.”

Locations affected by the alert include Scottsboro, Bridgeport, Stevenson, Hollywood, Section, Pisgah, Dutton, Bass, Martintown and Russell Cave National Monument.

According to the weather service, “if you are outdoors, consider sheltering inside a building.”
