The average monthly cost nationally

The report shows that 94% of U.S. households with a cell phone bill spend about $121 per month, or $1,452 per year. On average across all U.S. households, this figure adjusts to $1,365 per year.

This increase reflects a broader trend, as doxo’s previous 2023 analysis reported a $175 billion market, with consumers paying $119 per month, or $1,342 per year.

“Nearly every American now owns a mobile phone, and a portion of households rely solely on their smartphone for their Internet use, making this a significant bill for consumers to track,” said Liz Powell, senior director of ‘Insights at doxo.

Widespread ownership of mobile devices is also supported by a Pew Research Center survey, which found that 97 percent of Americans own a cell phone, and nine in ten own a smartphone. This near-universal adoption shows how integrated mobile phones have become into daily life, with many households relying solely on smartphones to access the internet.
