Protest against ‘deplorable’ conditions at Buffalo city animal shelter

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Dozens of people held signs outside Buffalo City Hall Wednesday afternoon to protest the appalling conditions at the city’s animal shelter.

Last month, the 7 News I-Team revealed the issues after an anonymous source came forward. Videos have been discovered showing dogs walking in their own feces, volunteers said cats are often stressed, there isn’t enough room and there aren’t enough resources to s take care of all the animals.

“It’s too full, it’s dirty and the volunteers are the only ones who really maintain the place,” said Jake Jablonski who rescues dogs from the streets of the city of Buffalo and brings them to the shelter. You can watch our previous report below and learn more here.

“Dogs are living creatures, they deserve better,” Archie said.

“I adopted my dog from the shelter eight years ago,” Lamparelli said. “He’s the most amazing dog I’ve ever met.”

The 7 News I-Team has learned the city of Buffalo is days away from finalizing the lease for a new shelter. Buffalo City Councilman Mitch Nowakowski said he has met with the Department of Public Works and the shelter’s new lease is expected to be announced soon.

The I-Team also met with volunteers who described the internal problems themselves. You can watch our report below and learn more here.
