Latest California State Senate Elections for LA County – Daily Bulletin

There have been a handful of state Senate races that Los Angeles County voters helped decide in this general election.

Although we won’t have final results until later this month, we know that at least three of the five state Senate elections will be won by non-incumbents as current incumbents functions will be designated.

Here are the semi-official results from the Nov. 5 election, which the Los Angeles County Registrar’s Office released around 4 a.m. Wednesday. The Los Angeles County Registrar’s Office won’t finish counting ballots for days and has until Dec. 3 to certify the election results.

District 23: Republican small business owner Suzette Martinez Valladares jumped in front of Democratic workers’ rights lawyer Kipp Mueller, 53% to 46%. Valladares served in the Assembly from 2020 to 2022 and was a founder of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus. Mueller ran for the position in 2020, but lost to the current incumbent, Republican Sen. Scott Wilk. Wilk is not seeking re-election this year due to term limits. This district represents an area stretching from Santa Clarita and Palmdale in northern Los Angeles County to Wrightwood and Hesperia in San Bernardino County.

District 25: Mayor of the Alhambra Sasha Renée Péreza Democrat, landed a Crescenta Valley City Council member Elizabeth Wong Ahlersa Republican, 58% to 42%. The two men defeated three other candidates in the primaries to advance to the general election. Whoever wins will replace Senator Anthony Portantino, who is excluded. Senate District 25 represents parts of the San Fernando, San Gabriel and Pomona valleys in northeastern Los Angeles County. It includes all or part of Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, Monrovia, Glendora and Claremont.

District 27: The outgoing Democratic senator. Henry Stern had a 58% to 41% lead over the Republican Lucie Volotzky. Stern, of Sherman Oaks, was first elected to the Senate in 2016 and currently chairs the Joint Legislative Committee on Climate Change Policy. Volotzky, a Chatsworth resident, is a longtime business owner. Both are running to represent a district that includes western parts of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County as well as Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and Moorpark in Ventura County.

District 33: The Democratic senator. Lena Gonzalez had a considerable lead over the Republicans Mario Paz67% to 32%. Gonzalez was first elected to the Senate in 2019 after five years on the Long Beach City Council. Paz, also a Long Beach resident, is a chief financial officer and has more than three decades of experience as an accountant. The district both candidates are competing for includes Long Beach in southern Los Angeles County, as well as Lynwood, Southgate, Huntington Park, Maywood and Bell Gardens.

District 35: In a close race, Michelle Rooms directed Laura Richardson in a Democratic-versus-Democrat battle to replace state senator Steven Bradford. Richardson led, 51% to 48%. Richardson, of San Pedro, is a housing advocate and small business owner who previously served on the Long Beach City Council, the State Assembly and the U.S. House of Representatives. Chambers, who lives in Compton, is an advocate for community justice. She previously served on the Compton City Council and was an aide to then-U.S. Rep. Janice Hahn. Senate District 35 represents residents of South Los Angeles County. It includes all or parts of Inglewood, Hawthorne, Compton, Carson and San Pedro.
