Once the election is over, what can you do with your political signs?

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – With Election Day in the rearview mirror, the political signs that decorate properties across metro Omaha will start to disappear.

If you post a political sign on public property, you are responsible for removing it within seven days of the election.

If you’re looking for ways to dispose of your yard signs, 6 News has yet to find an alternative to sending them to the landfill.

Two organizations, Verdis Group And Creation of a new creative spacehave reused signage in the past, but none of them reported doing so this year. In fact, Made New Makerspace told 6 News there is still a surplus of road signs from four years ago.

Not everyone may be looking to get rid of their street signs.

Some of those who have blue dot signs in their yards said they plan to save them and bring them back in the next election.

“It’s a good way to be proud of the fact that Omaha is a little different from the rest of Nebraska – and I don’t necessarily mean that by ‘versus the rest of Nebraska,'” Derek Hudson said. “I just think it’s pretty cool that Nebraska is splitting its votes, and it’s something to be proud of.”

“We are proud of our blue dot,” said Norene Tabouretman. “And we don’t want that to change, like some people want us to change that with the other votes.”

The group Blue Dot Nebraska worked during the last election cycle to highlight how Democratic votes could swing Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District. The effort even attracted national attention.

District 2 went to Democrat Kamala Harris in the presidential race.

Organizers said they are encouraging people to save their blue dot signs for the upcoming election. However, if you don’t want to keep them, they said you can contact their Ward Captains to find out what to do with them. You can find their information here.
