HELPING HANDS: The Helping Hands craft show at Howland Community Church, 198 Niles Cortland Road SE, Howland, will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be up to 30 vendors and each will donate an item for a raffle. There will be a door prize and a 50/50 drawing. The kitchen will be open with freshly prepared lunches and desserts, and there will also be a bake sale.

The show supports the Client Choice Pantry, the Free Fellowship Meal, Operation Shoeleather and other mission projects.

THERAPY RABBIT: Sara Coinin of My Therapy Bunnies will present a lecture for adults Friday at 2 p.m. at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library on rabbit care education and how therapy bunnies can benefit residents.

HISTORY OF THE DYNASTY: The Warren Library series will present the history of the Romanov dynasty. The two-part series, presented by Susan Cannavino, presents the story of Nicholas II, Alexandra, their four daughters and their son, Alexei. This also includes Rasputin and the end of the Romanov dynasty.

Part one is at 6 p.m. today and part two is at 6 p.m. Nov. 14, both at the Warren Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren. Registration is optional. To register, call the referral line at 330-399-8807, ext. 20.200. Events are free.

CHRISTMAS WALK: The Christmas Walk sponsored by the James A. Garfield Historical Society takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The march will also take place from November 15 to 17. Visit four decorated homes and a local church that will also offer a home-cooked lunch. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the James A. Garfield Historical Society, 8107 Main St., Garrettsville.

PRESS CLUB LUNCH: The role of new local nonprofit newsrooms will be the focus of a Nov. 14 luncheon at the Youngstown Press Club. The event will begin at noon at the Youngstown and Mahoning County Public Library Main Branch, 305 Wick Ave. The guest speaker will be Loretta Chao, head of local news startup and innovation studio at the American Journalism Project, whose topic will be “Empowering communities with local information. »

The mission of the American Journalism Project is to support local journalism. AJP provides grants to nonprofit news organizations, partners with communities to launch new organizations, and supports leaders in developing and sustaining their newsrooms. Appearing alongside Chao will be representatives from Signal Ohio, a three-year-old network of independent, community-led, nonprofit newsrooms funded in part by AJP. Signal Cleveland Executive Editor Lila Mills and Signal Ohio Newsroom Editor Mary Ellen Huesken will discuss how their organization is changing the local media landscape.

The cost is $30 for members of the Youngstown Press Club; $35 for non-members. The program is sponsored by the Edward M. Barr Foundation and the library. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the club’s college scholarship fund.

DEALING WITH GRIEF: McKinley Memorial Library will present “Dealing with grief during the holidays” from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles. Kim Calhoun, LSW Bereavement Facilitator at Mercy Health Hospice of the Valley by Compassus, will lead this unique grief support session for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one during the holiday season. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 21. 3.

FOLK CONCERT: The McKinley Memorial Library will present a “Folkloric concert with simple gift music” 5-7 p.m. Monday at McKinley Birthplace Home in Niles.

Award-winning band Simple Gifts will perform a wide variety of ethnic folk music featuring 12 unique instruments. After the concert, band members Linda Littleton and Karen Hirshon will discuss the different instruments used. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 21. 3.

TCGS TO MEETE: The Trumbull County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren.

Those in attendance will talk about how our families have celebrated Thanksgiving over the years. Do you have a Mayflower ancestor? All meetings are free and open to the public.

BOO SQUAD: For the eighth consecutive year, the Boo Squad Fund’s mission is to help families with Thanksgiving meals. The squad will be collecting donations throughout October and early November.

Online and check donations will be accepted until November 13, and food donations will be accepted until November 20. You can send checks to the Spano Foundation, PO Box 735, Youngstown, OH 44501 or you can contact the Boo Squad. group on the given items.

The Boo Squad is a volunteer group of children ages 7 and up. The goal of this group is to teach children about teamwork, volunteerism and compassion.
