Bannon does not speak for Trump

Corey Lewandowski said Steve Bannon was not speaking for President-elect Trump when reacting to the former strategist’s recent remarks about the federal government.

“No one speaks for the president except the president, and what the president has said and as he said last night on stage is that he is going to be everyone’s president, and we have now the opportunity to unify the country to bring this country together,” Lewandowski, a senior adviser to Trump’s 2024 campaign, said during his appearance Wednesday on NewsNation’s “Dan Abrams Live.”

Lewandowski’s response came after host Dan Abrams asked him Wednesday about Bannon’s comments after Trump won the U.S. presidential election against Vice President Harris. Bannon lashed out at federal agencies and MSNBC, saying they tried to “destroy this country.”

“You stole the 2020 election,” Bannon said Wednesday. “You ridiculed and put people in jail and shattered lives because you said this thing was stolen. This whole bogus story is being swept away. Biden is swept aside. Kamala Harris is being swept aside.

“MSNBC is being swept away,” he added. “The Department of Justice (DOJ) is being swept aside. The FBI is being wiped out. You guys suck, okay? And now you will pay the price for your attempt to destroy this country.”

Lewandowski said Wednesday that he knows and respects Bannon, “but he doesn’t speak for this administration; he does not speak for President Trump.

“Look, there’s going to be a lot of hyperbole; there will be a lot of people who say they know Donald Trump or speak on his behalf,” he said. “Unless you hear it from Donald Trump, you don’t have to listen to what these other people are saying.”

Bannon, a former Trump White House chief strategist, was released from prison one week before election day. He served a four-month sentence after refusing to comply with a congressional subpoena related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
