As Kartik Aaryan talks about burnout from work, know 5 warning signs your body is giving you | Health

“I don’t think I can give myself that personal time, because I’m always thinking about work, about the way forward, about what I didn’t do, about what didn’t work, about what’s right . I’ve been in this space for a very long time. I think I need some time for myself too,” he said.

Burnout from work is rampant these days. People are physically and mentally straining to accommodate more work in less time. As the work-from-home culture became a norm post-Covid, work-life balance took a hit.

But it’s important to look for the warning signs in the body to understand if you’re experiencing burnout. Dr Alisha Lalljee, psychologist, special educator and psychotherapist, in a previous interview with HT Lifestyle, spoke about the five warning signs the body gives when it’s exhausted.

Chronic fatigue

Constant headaches, feeling overwhelmed with daily activities, persistent fatigue and exhaustion are signs of chronic fatigue. The underlying reason may be burnout.

Sleep problems

We may have difficulty falling or staying asleep. We may also feel tired when we wake up.

Changes in appetite

Your appetite often takes a hit when you’re burned out. Some people end up overeating as a coping mechanism.

Frequent illness

Prolonged stress and exhaustion can weaken the immune system, making us vulnerable to infections and other illnesses.

Emotional exhaustion

One of the important signs of burnout can be extreme emotional exhaustion, leading to isolation from others and procrastination.
