Philadelphia Democratic leader blames Harris’ ‘elitist’ campaign’s ‘disrespect’ for state loss

Philadelphia Democratic President Bob Brady suggested that a lack of communication from the Harris campaign contributed to his loss in Pennsylvania.

On Wednesday, the former congressman said CNB10 that he “would have liked to see the Harris campaign, particularly the national campaign, coordinate with us a little bit. Tell us a little. Give us a few more resources. Show us some respect. This did not happen.

He added: “They were just elitist and went out there and did their own thing and didn’t include the Democratic Town Committee. or (ward leaders) or committee members. They just didn’t do it.

The president argued that Harris’ brief campaign made it more important for her to connect with him and other Democrats in town, asking, “Don’t you want to go to people who have done their evidence and who knows how to do this stuff and can you help?

“That didn’t happen,” he added.

Brady criticized Harris’ election-eve rally outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, pointing to road closures and the late hour, saying, “You don’t want to hurt other people going to and from work.”

The president said previous candidates, such as Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton, had all worked alongside him.

“They spoke to us. They said, “What should we do? The Harris campaign never spoke to us,” Brady told NBC10.

Pennsylvania was considered Harris’ most important swing state in the election with its 19 electoral votes. Trump’s victory in the state helped him cross the finish line to claim the White House for a second time.

For Democrats, running up the score in blue Philadelphia is critical to winning statewide. Harris won the city, but as of Wednesday afternoon, her vote total of 547,729 is lower than Biden’s numbers in the city when he beat Trump in 2020.

Similarly, the turnout was also lower than 2020 on Wednesday, standing at 62.89 percent. But Brady’s team estimates that once the vote count is complete, the number of voters will be about the same as in 2020, adding that the city’s Democrats have worked to turn out voters.

“We did everything we could,” Brady told NBC10.

Harris campaign spokesman Brendan McPhillips pushed back on Brady’s comments Wednesday, saying the campaign in the state “knocked on more than two million doors over the weekend leading up to Election Day, i.e. two million more doors than Bob Brady’s organization can claim to have. hit throughout his tenure at the head of the party.

“I don’t think any Democrats who live in the city have any ties to her,” Brady said of Harris. “And I don’t know why. I don’t know if there was an elitist factor. I don’t know why she didn’t talk to them.

McPhillips added: “No serious person can claim to have an answer to what caused the nationwide voting trends less than 24 hours after the polls closed. »

“If there’s one immediate takeaway from Philadelphia’s participation this cycle, it’s that President Brady’s decades-long practice of bilking campaigns for money to compensate his own lack of fundraising ability or leadership, is a worthless endeavor that no future campaign should ever be forced to entertain again,” the spokesperson said.

The Philadelphia Democratic chair has long been friends with Biden, and Brady said he didn’t like the way the president was treated after he was kicked out of the top spot following his June debate with the now president-elect Donald Trump.

“For a bad debate? Obama had a bad debate. (Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John) Fetterman had a horrible debate. And he made public appearances after that and everything was fine,” Brady told NBC10.
