GTA 6 release year confirmed as Take-Two insists there are no delays

There are no signs of delay… yet (Rockstar Games)

Owner of Rockstar Games Take-Two insists on the fact that GTA6 will be released next year as GTA 5 sales reach a new stage.

Apart from last year’s trailerdeveloper Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two have said almost nothing about the future blockbuster GTA 6.

Considering the trailer didn’t reveal much in terms of details, fans continued to be hungry for information, concoct elaborate theories lit when a second trailer is released.

The long silence also led to speculation and rumors of delaydespite Take-Two’s assurance that GTA 6 will be release by end of 2025. Today, the company once again insisted that its release plans for the game have not changed.

When is GTA 6 coming out?

During Take-Two’s latest financial results covering its second quarter of fiscal 2025 (July 2024 to September 2024), Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick made no mention of delays, explicitly stating that GTA 6 will be released at fall 2025.

He also reiterated his intention to launch Borders 4 and Mafia: The Old Country in fiscal year 2026. Both titles were revealed during this year’s Gamescom event and currently scheduled for release in 2025.

Although they lack a more concrete launch window, Zelnick confirmed with Variety that these games will not be released in the same time frame as GTA 6, undoubtedly to avoid cannibalizing sales. “I think it’s safe to say we wouldn’t pile up huge releases unnecessarily, and no one would,” he said.

However, no further trailers have been mentioned for GTA 6, and while Take-Two seems confident of releasing the game in 2025, that doesn’t mean it won’t ever be delayed.

A former Rockstar developer has already claimed that such a delay will only be decided next year. More, GTA 5 was originally scheduled to launch in spring 2013, but was ultimately delayed until September of the same year.

Speaking of GTA 5, during an earnings call (via The motley fool), it was revealed that sales of the games now exceed 205 million units, exceeding the company’s expectations. While this 11-year-old game continues to make money, Rockstar and Take-Two can afford to take their time with GTA 6.

Perhaps more surprising is the confirmation that the Borderlands franchise benefited from this year’s live-action film. Although this film was a critical and commercial failure, it actually boosted sales of the Borderlands games, according to Zelnick.

That said, he still called the film “disappointing” and suggested that Take-Two would be more careful in how it licenses in the future: “…we have licensed other titles , we will continue to do it selectively, but the emphasis is on the word selectively.

Furthermore, Take-Two has finally explained its intentions with its subsidiary Private Division. Earlier this year, reports emerged of massive layoffs within the private divisionwith two of its studios closed.

Take-Two was oddly vague about all of this, but the company has now confirmed that it has already sold its private division to an unnamed buyer, so that Take-Two can “focus our resources on growing our core businesses and long-term mobility.
