Reds pitcher Nick Martinez sparks interest with multiple contract offers

Nick Martinez has until Nov. 19 to decide whether he wants to accept the Reds’ qualifying offer of $21.05 million.

Martinez’s agent, Scott Boras spoke to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic during the general managers’ meetings Wednesday and said there was a chance Martinez would accept the offer, but also mentioned he had received offers from other teams for multi-year contracts.

“I don’t know if that’s a decision that Nick and I have already made,” Boras said. “We have a good amount of time to review it.”

Boras did not say whether the Reds were among the teams that offered him a multi-year contract.

“You’d have to ask them,” Boras said. “Certainly, normally when teams make qualifying offers, other offers come along as well.”

The right-hander was 10-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 42 games this season, including 16 starts. Martinez has pitched a career-high 142 1/3 innings in 2024.
