What to expect in Trump’s second term

President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will have an opportunity to craft regulations for AI governance when he takes office next year. But what will he do?

PwC has published a report November 6 on how Mr. Trump’s administration could meet the major challenges ahead. He proposed a shift in AI oversight “toward industry autonomy to reduce government regulations,” according to the report. PwC predicted that the likelihood of Mr. Trump’s deregulation proposal gaining traction was high, which would affect providers, payers and pharmaceutical companies.

His position would foster innovation and allow the industry to create ethical guidelines and best practices instead of issuing mandates at the federal level, according to the report.

Last year, President Joe Biden issued an executive order to advance AI in healthcare, with guidance on ethical implementation to avoid safety and security risks. It called on companies to report how they train AI models and provide test results to the federal government to identify and correct bias, according to Technological crisis.

Mr. Trump, meanwhile, supported “AI development rooted in free speech and human flourishing,” according to the report. But his campaign has provided few details on whether he would reverse the recommendations in Mr. Biden’s executive order.
