Good stewards of the land

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Foresight and adaptability are two qualities that have helped generations of farmers and ranchers maintain successful operations.

In the 47 years that John Malazzo has worked in agriculture in Central Texas, he has learned a thing or two about adaptation. From crop rotation to pasture management, farmers and ranchers like Malazzo strive to implement proactive practices to protect their land and promote longevity.

“We are not here for one year or one harvest, we have to maintain our herd of cows, we have to make sure they are healthy. We need to make sure our farmland is productive. And the only way to do that is to protect it,” Malazzo said.

Being a good land steward is a top priority for every farmer and rancher. Malazzo says he works very hard to “maintain the quality of (his) farmland, rangelands and livestock.”

And at the root of it all: Malazzo’s family.

“This is who I am. That’s who we are, farmers. I think most farmers will say that their family motivates them to continue,” Malazzo said.
