Gulf of Mexico producers shut down some oil and gas production due to Hurricane Rafael

The Ministry of the Interior Office of Safety and Environmental Enforcement Thursday reported that in response to Hurricane Rafael in the Gulf of Mexico, an estimated 22.4% of current oil production and 9.7% of natural gas production in the region were disrupted or temporarily shut down .

A westward turn for Rafael is expected later Thursday, and this general movement will continue through the weekend. according to the National Hurricane Center. “Based on the forecast track, Rafael is expected to move over the southern Gulf of Mexico over the next few days.”

THURSDAYIn December, West Texas Intermediate crude rose 67 cents, or 0.9%, to settle at $72.36 a barrel, while natural gas for December delivery lost 5 cents, or 2%, ending at $2.69 per million British thermal units.
