Here’s what’s closed, open and free for Veterans Day

As a thank you to veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. armed forces, dozens of restaurants are offering free Veterans Day meals. Check out our list below of different offers. Drinks and gratuity are not included unless otherwise stated. Most deals are only valid for Monday.

Many restaurants not listed below may have previously offered free meals to veterans. Some of these restaurants still offer discounts to current and former military personnel.

Offers are valid at participating locations for dine-in only unless otherwise noted, and most require proof of service.

Applebee’s: Veterans and active duty military can receive a free entrĂ©e from Applebee’s special menu. Items include the Bacon Cheeseburger and Fiesta Lime Chicken. Since 2008, Applebee’s has served 11.7 million free meals on Veterans Day.

BIBIBOP Asian grills: All BIBIBOP Asian Grill locations will offer veterans and active military members a free bowl with ID. Offer valid for dine-in only.

Biggby Coffee: Veterans and active duty individuals with a military ID can get a free 16 oz. hot/iced/frozen latte drink on Monday.

Bob Evans: Upon showing proof of service, veterans and those on active duty can receive a free on-site breakfast, including the Country Biscuit Breakfast or a stack of hot cross buns.

Wild buffalo wings: Veterans and active duty can receive a free order of boneless wings and fries with proof of military service for dine-in service. Customers at Buffalo Wild Wings GO locations can order at the counter with proof of service.

California Pizza Cuisine: With proof of service, veterans and active duty military members can choose from a limited menu.

The chilies: Upon showing proof of service, veterans and active duty service members can enjoy a free meal from a four-appetizer menu, including a Chicken Ranch Quesadilla and the Oldtimer with Cheese. The offer is valid on site only.

At Dave and Buster’s: Active and former military personnel can choose free admission up to $20 and get a $10 Power Card on Monday.

At Denis: With a valid military ID, guests can receive a free Grand Slam breakfast from Denny’s from 5 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Dunkin’: With a valid military ID, customers can receive a free donut for in-person orders.

Golden Corral: The buffet chain offers current and active duty military and reservists a free meal at the buffet from 4 p.m. until close on Monday.

Sirens: All day Monday, veterans and active duty military can choose from one of five entrees, including Hooters boneless wings.

IHOP: From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, veterans and active duty service members can get a free combo of red, white and blueberry pancakes.

The Little Caesars: The pizzeria will offer its free Hot-N-Ready lunch of four slices and a 20-ounce drink to veterans and active military from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

BBQ mission: Veterans and active duty military can receive a free sandwich all day Monday.

Garden of Olives: Former and active military personnel can choose from one of the many entrees on Olive Garden’s Veterans Day menu.

Outback Steakhouse: With a valid military ID, Outback Steakhouse is offering a free Bloomin’ Onion and drink on Monday.

Robin: This burger joint offers veterans and active duty service members a free double Red’s Tavern burger and bottomless fries all day Monday. This is dine-in only.

Starbucks: Veterans, active-duty military members and military spouses can get a free 12-ounce coffee all day Monday.

What is open, closed on Monday?

Although many government buildings will be closed, many things will remain open.

What is open

  • Almost all major retailers
  • Essential government offices
  • Stock Markets

What is closed

  • Non-essential federal offices, courthouses
  • US Post Offices
  • Most banks

Essential government offices, such as the National Weather Service, will remain open. Examples of nonessential offices closed Monday include the Social Security Administration and the Internal Revenue Service.
Some schools, universities, and local and state governments may close.
