What to do after your dog attacks

See a dog attack can be so scary for a pet owner. And it can be very difficult to know what you should do if your the puppy is the victim of violence.

First of all, stay calm. It’s reasonable that you want to panic, but it will only frighten your dog more if you panic. Don’t try to separate the dogs yourself, but instead try to distract the other dog with a loud noise, such as clapping. Do not make eye contact, as the other dog may see it as a threat. You can also try to move your dog away from the fight and encourage the dog’s other owner to do the same.

Once the dogs are separated, be sure to document the incident and exchange information with the other pet owner. You may want to report the incident to animal control and then take your pet to the veterinarian. Even if the injuries don’t seem serious, you want to play it safe.

Here again, the key word is calm. Your dog is always looking for cues from you on how to react. So if you stay calm, they will stay calm. And that will make things a lot Easier.
