Educators urged to adopt anti-communist training and curricula

Today, November 7, is Victims of Communism Day, and this day of remembrance should be a regular part of K-12 school calendars.

Legislators in a growth A number of states are adding this recognition to their domestic law, and more may be to come.

Parents are worried about culture of K-12 schools in recent years, and the election this week also reported that Americans concerned about stranger political, which includes the nation’s relations with communist nations, such as China.

Policymakers, however, should not take for granted that all Americans share this concern. A YouGov A survey released in October found that nearly one in five respondents had a “very or somewhat” favorable or neutral opinion of communism. A 2021 investigation found that millennials and members of Generation Z have the same positive feelings about capitalism and socialism.

This helps explain why Communist ideas, such as critical race theory and critical gender studies, have made their way into primary and secondary schools, and why are young people – including fresh-out-of-college teachers and elementary school students and secondary school – are not able to distinguish between the free market and socialism.

And make no mistake, critical race theorists and gender theorists have communist roots and trace their ideas directly to Karl Marx in their writings.

The culture wars in education always represent a struggle between socialist ideas and democracy.

The Civics Alliance, a group of conservative researchers, educators and advocates, helps educate and inform students with a model resolution for K-12 school boards. The resolution calls on boards to designate November 7 as a memorial and use resources from the Victims of Communism Foundation’s K-12 program in classrooms.

Former Virginia State Delegate Mark Cole, a Republican, sponsored a version of the resolution passed by delegates in 2018. Lawmakers in Arizona, Florida and Texas are among those in nearly a dozen states that have passed similar resolutions, while officials in seven others States are considering the provisions, according to to the foundation.

The Victims of Communism Foundation also teacher training programs that many parents would find a welcome change from DEI trainings. It also organized a conference for educators in the summer of 2023, which included presentations from dissidents from communist countries.

DEI training, for their part, is unpopular And ineffective Because of the trainers’ goals of promoting what they call tolerance and as an application of ideas from critical theory, DEI has obvious socialist sympathies.

Aware of the ahistorical and biased content many educators use, conservative families and teachers no longer rely on colleges or state departments of education to provide school officials with quality teaching tools.

The nonpartisan group 1776 Unites has created a K-12 curriculum that teachers can use to counter racist content such as the New York Times Magazine’s 1619 Project. The teacher- and parent-led organization Freedom in Education is collecting classic books to supply to schools in response to the growing influence of gender equality activist organizations. Groups such as the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network regularly send books promoting transgenderism to schools and claim be active in 33 states.

By offering teacher training programs and programs, the Victims of Communism Foundation fills a need and gives school staff resources to counter communist ideas. School board members can demonstrate leadership in their community by reviewing the resolution. Choosing educational materials is one of the responsibilities of school board members and district leaders, and leaders can send a clear message to educators and students by making Victims of Communism Foundation materials easily accessible.

The first administration of President-elect Donald Trump displayed its commitment to quality civics education through programs such as those of the 1776 Commission, a group of scholars and researchers that the administration brought together to study and recognize the need to improve civic education.

But educators don’t need Washington’s permission to teach historically accurate lessons about America’s founding ideals. Americans’ choice Tuesday demonstrates that voters are more aligned with policies like those of the 1776 Commission than with teaching students they can change their “gender.”

Lawmakers and educators should take note and make Victims of Communism Memorial Day an annual reminder of America’s commitment to freedom and equality.
