GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) – The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office announced that an investigation into a plot to bring contraband into the Cherokee County Detention Center was completed Wednesday.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, between November 1 and 4, an inmate managed to persuade two detention officers, Christopher Duncan and Darius Fuller, to help him bring, conceal and/or smuggle cigarettes, vapes and marijuana in the detention center. .

Authorities said a suspect, Vanessa Addy, posed as a food delivery woman. She would bring a bag containing hidden contraband to “corrupt” detention officers who would then transfer the items to the inmate who would deliver them to the housing units.

The investigation resulted in the indictment of four inmates already incarcerated, as well as the two detention officers who were immediately fired and arrested.

The sheriff’s office said the former corrections officers had both worked in the corrections sector for the past nine months and were both hired on January 22, 2024. They were both working at the time of their arrest and were were immediately stripped of their correctional uniforms and placed in jumpsuits.

Deputies said Addy was located and arrested and is now joining her associates in the detention center.
