Roberts elected mayor, Larson and Valento win seats in City Council race – Twin Cities

Blake M. Roberts won the race for Mayor of Forest Lake In the Tuesday, November 5, 2024 election, Jeff Larson and incumbent Hanna Valento won City Council seats with 5 out of 5 precincts reporting.

Roberts received nearly 56% of the vote while his closest challenger, Sam Husnik, received just over 25%. The other candidates, Bruce Anderson and Jason T. Mayhew, both received 9%.

For City Council, Larson and Valento were about 300 votes apart, winning 30% and 28% of the vote, respectively. Susan Young finished in third place with just over 24% and Jesse Wade Wagner finished in fourth place with almost 17% of the vote.

Roberts is a longtime resident of Forest Lake, has served on the city council and was a member of the city’s Economic Development Authority. His priorities include funding public safety, improving infrastructure and redeveloping downtown, according to responses to a Pioneer Press candidate survey.

Valento has served on the Forest Lake City Council since 2020 and is currently the legal and policy advisor to the Chief Executive Officer of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. She told the Pioneer Press she plans to focus on the city’s 10-year budget plan, economic development and strengthening Forest Lake’s internal organization.

Larson did not provide responses to the Pioneer Press questionnaire.
