A woman with severe food allergies finds herself in a difficult situation after her in-laws refuse to prepare meals for her that she can eat. Today, she must refrain from family gatherings.

In a post shared with Redditthe woman’s husband writes that his wife is allergic to shellfish, peanuts, celery and soy.

“She is used to people being unwilling to accommodate her OR being lazy and thinking they can make food with one of those things in it and just not putting it on her plate,” writes- he. “So she will normally bring food if people don’t know what to do.”

And that’s exactly what she did when the man’s mother hosted a family gathering, bringing her own food because they thought there wouldn’t be safe food available for her.

“But when we arrived, mom was offended that we brought food. We explained why and mom said that in the future she would just prepare food that my wife could eat,” adds -he.

At subsequent family gatherings, the woman did not bring her own food – but one day, after the man’s mother “did not pay attention to food safety,” she was served something of her own. contaminated by crustaceans.

After having an allergic reaction, the man’s mother “said she felt bad and apologized.”

“But then, after that dinner, she decided it was too much hassle to prepare a whole other meal for my wife, and then she started preparing a meal again, but it was a meal my wife couldn’t eat.” , he adds.

The situation eventually led to the man having a discussion with the extended family, with his mother saying “it was unfair” that he was asked to prepare multiple meals to accommodate his wife.

“So I told them it was better if my wife and I didn’t join them for these dinners,” he wrote.

His family “did not like this decision” and he is now the subject of criticism.

“I told them that my wife’s health and safety comes first and since she can’t win and won’t risk another allergic reaction by eating there, and it wouldn’t be fair for ‘She sits and watches us eat, so it’s best not to go, our only option remains,’ he wrote.
