World’s 10 richest people earn $63.5 billion after election

The 10 richest people on the planet earned a whopping $63.5 billion on Wednesday, a single-day record, Bloomberg reported. The list is led by Elon Muska staunch Trump supporter, whose net worth jumped 10.1 percent to $290.3 billion. Among the top 10, only one person is based outside the United States: LVMH founder Bernard Arnault, whose fortune actually fell slightly on Wednesday, falling 1.6% to $173.2 billion.

“US financial assets, notably stocks and the US dollar, are expected to experience a revival,” Samy Chaar and Luca Bindelli of the Lombard Odier group wrote to their clients, according to Bloomberg.

THE wealth the gains were largely due to strong stock performance following the election announcement, Bloomberg noted. The S&P 500 rose 2.5 percent – ​​the biggest rise in post-election history – while the US dollar also strengthened. Meanwhile, Musk’s Tesla saw its shares jump 15 percent. The increases are due to hopes that Trump will favor lower taxes and looser regulations when he returns to the White House.

Elsewhere in the top 10, Larry Ellison and Warren Buffett both saw their fortunes increase by 5.4%, to $193.5 billion and $147.8 billion, respectively. Larry Page and Sergey Brin gained 3.6 percent, bringing them to $158.3 billion and $149.1 billion, respectively. Jeff Bezos saw his net worth increase by 3.2%, to $228.3 billion. And Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates added a more modest 2% and 1.2%, respectively. Ballmer is now worth $145.9 billion and Gates is worth $159.5 billion.

Outside of the crème de la crème when it comes to wealth, crypto billionaires saw impressive gains after the election, Bloomberg wrote. Brian Armstrong, co-founder and CEO of Coinbase, earned a staggering 30% gain, bringing his net worth to $11 billion. And Zhao Changpengthe embattled founder of Binance, added $12.1 billion to his fortune, bringing it to a total of $52.7 billion.

Just before the elections, an investigation showed that Americans believed wealth would increase if Trump or Kamala Harris won the race. Although it will be some time before we see how a new president will contribute to the overall wealth of the United States, it is already clear that the world’s richest are benefiting from Trump’s return to the presidency, at least in the short term.
