Cincinnati Bridge repair progresses as crews prepare for concrete work

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Crews have begun the process of repairing the Big Mac Bridge following a major fire that damaged the structure.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has been working on the design phase and has now moved to the physical repair stage.

ODOT shared a photo illustrating what the shoring towers will look like once installed around the bridge’s damaged concrete. These towers are crucial to stabilizing the structure during repairs.

Currently, contractors are doing excavation and reinforcement work, and plan to pour concrete on Friday. The concrete will need at least 72 hours to harden before the shoring towers can be erected. The materials for these towers are transported from New Jersey.

Once the towers are in place, inspectors will conduct a thorough examination to assess the extent of the damage and determine what repairs are needed. ODOT did not provide a specific completion date but assured it was working as quickly as possible.

The fire, which started in the park under the bridge, is still under investigation by the Cincinnati Fire Department, with no cause yet identified.
