Barn destroyed in fire near Wadena, Minnesota

WADENA, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Multiple fire departments were called to respond to a major fire near Wadena, Minnesota.

The Wadena Fire Department was called shortly before 5:30 p.m. on November 5 for a large barn fire on 615th Avenue in southwest Wadena. When firefighters arrived on scene, the barn was completely invaded by the livestock there.

The livestock were being evacuated by the owner and Wadena firefighters called for mutual aid to put out the flames.

“Due to the size and amount of hay and straw in the barn, it was decided to use heavy equipment to extinguish the fire,” Wadena Fire Chief Cody Yglesias said.

No one was injured, but the barn was a total loss.

The Deer Creek, Bluffton, Henning, Verndale, Sebeka and Hewitt fire departments responded along with the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, Astera EMT, Lake Region Electric Cooperative, Black Diamond Concrete and Brogard Plumbing and Excavating.
