Liat 2020 to improve regional connectivity

–flights to Guyana expected to begin later this month

THE Government of Guyana has approved the Liat 2020 proposal to operate flights to and from Guyana starting later this month.
In an exclusive interview with the Guyana Chronicle, Minister of Works, Juan Edghill, while extending a warm welcome to the Liat 2020 airline, said the ministry took note of the concerns raised by citizens before the approval is not given.

Recognizing that Liat 2020 is a new company compared to Liat 1974, Minister Edghill said he had put in place all measures to ensure the protection of passengers.
“One of our main concerns with Liat and all other airlines that fly to Guyana is the safety of people. This simply means that passengers must be protected at all times, should any difficulties arise,” the minister said.
Edghill further explained that Liat 2020 will make travel to the Caribbean more affordable for consumers, making it more competitive in terms of price while providing travelers with the opportunity for greater flexibility to travel to different parts of the region .
The Minister further stated that the Government of Guyana, through the Aviation Authority, will continue to ensure that full compliance of every airline operating in Guyana is respected and that the interests of the traveling public are always protected .

Regarding the huge interest from airlines wanting to fly to Guyana, Minister Edghill said the government was negotiating with several players to come to the developing country.
“We are not surprised by the great interest shown by airlines in Guyana. We have advocated and ensured that Guyana becomes a preferred destination for tourists and a preferred destination for doing business,” he recounted.

Meanwhile, Liat 2020, in a statement via its social media platforms, said: “We are delighted to announce the maiden flight of LIAT20 to Guyana! Now connecting the beautiful destinations of Antigua, Barbados, St. Vincent and Grenada to Guyana.
Guyana is also set to welcome AVIANCA, a leading Colombian airline, which will launch direct flights in December.

Since the start of the year, Guyana has added 200,000 more aircraft seats and 125,000 more passenger movements.
Avianca’s extensive network, covering more than 100 destinations across the Americas and Europe, will transform Guyana into a more accessible and attractive destination, providing travelers with seamless connections to other global hotspots.
