Top 10 SUVs sold in India in October: Creta retains its crown, Fronx wins significantly

The Hyundai Creta SUV continues to dominate the overall segment, which accounts for more than half of car sales in India. The Fronx, Maruti’s smallest SUV, achieved the most significant growth among the most popular SUVs during the festive month.

SUVs were the flavor of India’s just-concluded festive season. Capitalizing on the festive spirit, most of India’s best-selling SUVs recorded big gains in October, with some surprise names on the list of top 10 SUVs climbing the rankings. MahindraIndia’s largest SUV maker had three of its models on the list. Maruti Suzukithe second largest SUV maker in India, also had three of its most popular models on the list. Car manufacturers like Tata Engines, Hyundai The engine had two each. Here’s a look at the 10 best SUVs sold in India in October.

Hyundai Creta:

Hyundai Crete continues to dominate the SUV segment in India as it retained its crown as the most popular model in India in this category. Its latest generation SUV was launched in January this year. Since then, the compact SUV has made great strides, recording one million sales in the first six months. In October, Creta led the SUV segment with 17,497 units sold across India. It registered a gain of almost 34 percent compared to last year’s holiday month, during which the Korean auto giant was able to sell 13,077 units of the SUV.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza:

While Creta dominates the overall SUV segment, Maruti Suzuki Brezza remains the king in the subcompact SUV field. The sub-four meter SUV ceded its lead to the Korean SUV in September and continues to be the second most popular choice in the category in October. The automaker sold 16,565 units of Brezza last month, compared to 16,050 units sold in the same month last year.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx:

Maruti Suzuki Fronx emerged as a surprise entry at number three on the list with significant growth since October last year. Fronx is the smallest SUV from the Maruti stable and rivals the likes of Tata Punch and Hyundai External among others. During this year’s festive month, Fronx sales saw a 45 percent jump as 16,419 car buyers returned home in one. As of October last year, Maruti had sold only 11,357 units of the SUV.

Tata punch:

Tata’s smaller Punch SUV has fallen further in the list of most popular SUVs in India from the highs earlier this year. The Punch SUV, available in ICE, EV and CNG versions, has recently seen a steady decline in sales. However, during the holiday month, he recovered to some extent. The 15,740 units sold last month were slightly higher than the 15,317 units sold by the automaker last season. As of September this year, Punch had found 13,711 units.

THE Scorpio And Classic Scorpio SUVs, which make up Mahindra’s Scorpio brand, have been the carmaker’s main sales driver in recent months, with the largest increase in sales. The trend continued during the festive month and the automaker recorded 15,677 units of the Scorpio SUV, a gain of around 15 per cent over the same period last year.

Tata Nexon:

THE Nexon The SUV, the main rival of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, lost further ground to it in October. The subcompact SUV, which dominated the SUV sales charts just a year ago, fell to sixth place last month with 14,759 units sold. Its sales are down almost 13 percent compared to October last year, when Tata sold 16,887 units of the SUV. However, Nexon’s sales figures increased last month, compared to the 11,470 units sold in September this year.

Maruti Grand Vitara ranks third among SUVs above the subcompact segment in October. The compact SUV, placed behind competitors like Creta and Scorpio, found 14,083 homes last month, a healthy increase of around 30 percent compared to October last year, when the automaker sold only than 10,834 units of the SUV.

As the Korean auto giant dominates the overall SUV segment with Creta, its subcompact SUV Place was not as successful. It still lags behind rivals Brezza and Nexon and ranks eighth on the top 10 SUV list in October. Last month, Hyundai sold 10,901 units of the Venue, down about 6 percent from the 11,581 units sold in the same month last year.

The flagship SUV from the Mahindra stable continues to be its second best bet in the segment. The compact SUV that rivals the Tata SafariM.G. Hector among others, ended the month of celebration by placing itself in ninth place on the list. Mahindra sold 10,435 units of the XUV700compared to 9,297 units in October last year.

Mahindra Bolero:

Rounding out the list of top 10 best SUVs is another Mahindra SUV that has stood the test of time. Bolero and Neo boleroboth models from the Bolero brand, continued to help Mahindra maintain its lead in the SUV segment. In October, the automaker sold 9,849 units of the SUV, about 2 percent more than the 9,647 units sold in the same month last year.
