Two men arrested in Islip street takeover

Suffolk County police said they arrested Dennis Kaprov, 21, of Brooklyn, and Jordy Yanzaguano, 20, of Westbury, in connection with last weekend’s illegal street occupation.

Police said an officer approached Kaprov’s Ford Mustang that was driving recklessly early Sunday morning.

According to News 12, that’s when several people approached the officer and started hitting him. The officer was standing at the door of the Mustang when Kaprov allegedly fled, dragging the officer. He was then involved in a crash with another car at Commack Road and Wallace Street. Police say Kaprov then fled.

He faces several charges this morning, including assault.

We’re told police were able to identify Yanzaguano as another participant, after finding his abandoned car. The Westbury man faces several charges, including reckless endangerment.

New video released by the Suffolk PBA shows someone appearing to smash the tires of a Suffolk police cruiser during an illegal street takeover.

“With 25 years of law enforcement experience, every time I responded to a call like this, a street race, and the lights and sirens appeared, the criminals ran away. This doesn’t happen anymore .Now they want to stay. They want to fight,” said Louis Civello, president of the Suffolk County PBA.

Officials are expected to release more information later in the morning, including the formation of a new street takeover task force. We will provide you with the information and communicate it to you as soon as it is announced.
