A road has been closed after suspected military weapons were found in a river.

Derbyshire Police closed Makeney Road at Duffield Bridge in Duffield, Amber Valley, on Friday.

The force said magnet fishermen found what appeared to be two “munitions” in the River Derwent at 10:50 GMT.

An Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was contacted to assist, the force said.

A force spokesman said it had not been established exactly whether it had been fished from the river but was “definitely old”.

People were asked to avoid the area where the road is expected to be closed “for a period of time”, police added.
