He later pleaded guilty to five further charges at the same court on October 18.

Northage twice targeted black people at Wheeler Gate on September 5 and 17, smashing a window each time.

The first burglary resulted in the theft of clothing worth around £500, while the second saw goods worth a total of £1,858 seized.

On September 14, Northage walked out of JD Sports at Riverside Retail Park wearing a £150 jacket which he had not paid for.

He also shoplifted twice at Metro Fashion in Middle Pavement on October 9 and 13, stealing a £1,200 coat and other items worth £410.

Judge Shant described Northage’s criminal history as “extensive”.

She issued a criminal behavior order banning Northage from entering the town center for three years.
