Met Éireann issues rain warning ahead of mixed bank holiday but good news for next week – The Irish Times

With Éireann issued a yellow warning for localized flooding risk in Co County Donegal on Sunday. The meteorologist said rain in the northwest would persist between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Elsewhere, rain will fall across the country on Saturday afternoon, but this is expected to be followed by sunny periods and clear skies as night falls. Relatively mild – although cloudy – conditions are forecast for the coming week.

Met Éireann Meteorologist Rebecca Cantwell said: “It looks like we are in for mixed weather for the bank holiday weekend, with bouts of rain bearing down on us, but the good news is that high pressure will take control of our weather next week. , and so we are heading towards calmer, albeit cloudy, conditions.”

Ms Cantwell said Saturday would be cloudy “with a band of rain moving west and northwest before midday, moving southeast across the country throughout the afternoon and the evening.

“Bright spells and isolated showers will follow later from the west as the rain clears, with maximum temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees,” Ms Cantwell said.

Saturday night is expected to be colder than recent nights, with temperatures dropping between 2 and 6 degrees on a clear day with just isolated showers.

Conditions are expected to be cloudier on Sunday morning, with a persistent rain warning in the northwest. However, parts of the Southeast are expected to remain largely dry into the evening.

Bank holiday Monday should start with rather cloudy weather with periods of rain. The weather may become drier in the afternoon and evening as the rain becomes lighter and more scattered. Some sunny spells will develop later in the evening. Maximum temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in a light westerly wind.

Monday evening is expected to be cloudy and generally dry, with areas of drizzle, mist and fog. Lowest temperatures 8 to 11 degrees in light west to northwest or variable wind.

Tuesday the weather should be quite cloudy. The day is expected to be largely dry, with some scattered light drizzle and occasional sunny spells which may develop later in the day. Maximum temperatures of 12 to 14 degrees in a light westerly wind.

Wednesday will again be a cloudy day but mostly dry except for a few areas of light drizzle or mist. Maximum temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees, mildest in the south and southeast with light westerly winds.

Other Outlook: Current indications suggest the weather remains generally calm.
